Greetings!
Hello to all my artist friends!
Finally, here in North Carolina we are getting a glimpse of Spring weather. Fortunately for me that is a good thing as I need to work outdoors in order to make the Red Easel Master Palettes that have been selling like crazy. Maybe one of these days I will have a studio with the proper ventilation and won't have to depend on weather conditions in order to make the palettes. The lacquer is a real killer.
I am still plugging away at the gallery slowly but surely adding artist galleries to the new lightbox feature. This has been a long and tedious process, but well worth it. We have a new artist this month. His name is Michael Petringa from Braintree, Massachusetts. Click on his name to visit his Red Easel Gallery.
I am anxious to get all of the artist galleries complete in the new lightbox feature and add more new artists that I have sitting in wait. I need help. This is becoming more than a one-woman show here.
We did not have any good guesses for January's "What Painting is This?" Edition. That painting is by Andre Derain - French Fauvist Painter and Sculptor.
Take a look at the story and learn a bit about this wonderful artist.
We have a new painting for you to take a crack at this month. So be sure to take a look and a guess. If you don't know the artist or the painting, that's fine, I still want you to comment on the painting and tell me your thoughts.
Also, I really need personal stories and/or demonstration articles for this month. Any artist is welcome to share their story on Red Easel. It is your stories that make Red Easel unique and personal.
The painting above is from Mary Ann Archibald - "A Shoreline Runs Through it" 16x20 Acrylic on Canvas. You can view more of Mary Ann's remarkable artwork by going to her Red Easel Gallery

Andre Derain: French Fauvist Painter & Sculptor
By Susan Vaughn Editor Derain, André (1880-1954), French painter; an exponent of fauvism. Derain was born in 1880 in Chatou, Yvelines, Île-de-France, just
outside Paris. When he was only 15 years old, Derain received his first
painting lessons from his friend La Noé. During these early teen years,
he painted his first landscapes. Between 1898 and 1900 Derain attended
the 'Académie Carrieère' in Paris while at the same time working with
Matisse and Vlaminck in his studio. He would become important friends
with Matisse and Vlaminck during these years.

Picasso Takes More than Just One Hit
By Susan Vaughn Editor
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is preparing to exhibit 250
works by artist Pablo Picasso from April 27 - August 1, 2010, but
first, they must repair what appears to be a 6-inch tear in the bottom
right corner of one of the artist's paintings - "The Actor."
The painting was damaged when a woman, who was attending an
adult-education class at the museum, lost her balance and fell into the
painting. Can you imagine the horror that she must have experienced
when she realized the damage that had been done to the painting? In
addition to falling, I probably would have fainted.

Dan Schultz Sand Creek Demonstration
By Dan Schultz Professional Visual Artist Medium: Oil, Charcoal Colorado Springs, Colorado USA Dan Schultz Fine Art Schultz Red Easel Gallery
This demonstration shows the process I use in my studio when I create a
larger studio landscape painting based on a smaller painting that I
completed in the field. Below is the 9" x 12" plein air painting that I
used as my source. Incidentally, continual plein air painting is an
invaluable source of information to me as I make decisions while
painting in the studio.

Yes, Big Bear is Still Out of Work...
He has taken a different approach to applying for positions. He has been customizing every resume to highlight his experience that is pertinent to the position he is applying for. It seems to be working - well, kind of. The companies posting the positions seem to be taking a longer look at his credentials. He did, however, have a bit of a run in with a recruiter who was interviewing him for a position. He asked Bob's age and race. Uh, I don't think so!!! You just don't do that kind of thing - EVER. That should have nothing to do with his qualifications for a job. His career speaks for itself.
We are beginning to think that these recruiters view being 50 as meaning you're somehow unable to do the job. You're too old.
We are praying and working hard to make something happen. I've received a number of commissions and I am also selling the Red Easel Master Palettes like crazy. I had a bit of a problem with the stain and the lacquer, but managed to solve the problem and the result is beautiful.
Will keep you all posted. Thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement during this difficult economic time.
