Greetings!
It is almost Spring and I see trees and flowers in bloom all around me. I love this season because it inspires me to paint more.
No, you have not missed any newsletters, in case you were wondering. I've been very busy - life has a way of redirecting our energy, time, and priorities.
As a mother of 4, two of which are still at home, and a grandmother to 1 silly little boy whom we are raising (that is 3 at home), and also having my elderly mother living with us, it can be quite hectic. I also homeschool my children - they are doing great! In addition, I spend time with my dear friends when I can because they are as much my family as, well, my family. :) So, it seems like I am going to have a busy year, and although I won't be sending out the newsletter every week, I will be sending it out when I can.
Red Easel has grown by leaps and bounds and I appreciate all the contributions to our online magazine. Contribute More! I love getting your articles and look forward to hearing your voice in Red Easel. I know that you have a lot to share with others, so write! It doesn't have to be long or genius prose' - just your inspiration, instruction, information, or feelings put into words with a few pictures to compliment your article. So, I will be looking in my inbox for contributions.

The Power of the Creative Mind
An Artist's mind is said to be many things - creative, inspiring, zoned
out, focused, and more. Understanding what is happening in the brain
when a creative person becomes genius has, for years, inspired me to
push my own creative desires from art to music hoping to find a glimpse
of the extraordinary in my own abilities.
Personally, I have never been an "I can't" person. Rather, I've
always been an "I'll try" especially if it is something that I really
want to learn to do. Painting and portraiture in oils has been, since
my childhood, one of those creative endeavors that I wanted to be
really good at, so nurturing that compass in my brain to follow the
path of learning and inspiration in that area was easy for me. I have
been nurturing that passion for 40 years. However, and yes, there is a
big "however," as focused as I might be when I am in my studio and
absorbed in the creative environment and the work in front of me, when
I am not in my studio, I tend to seek out other creative endeavors as
well - sometimes to the detriment of that one thing that I could take
to the next level of perfection if only I were consistently focused.
In this case, I have a few other things in my life that bring me so
much brain pleasure, that my art becomes secondary to who I am. The 3
things that I consistently enjoy in addition to my painting, is
teaching my children, writing, and playing the piano. Read more about Power of the Creative Mind at Red Easel...

Life Takes Unexpected Turns
By Susan Vaughn Editor-in-Chief
Life certainly takes unexpected turns, and mine is no exception. With
a family of 6, which includes my young grandson and my elderly mother
whom live with us, sometimes the best laid plans have to be set aside
to take care of priorities. Sometimes those turns don't always involve
family, but rather, our dear friends whose presence in our lives are as
important as our own family.
My very dear friend has needed me every step of the way during a
difficult transition in her life, and it was necessary for me to be
there for her for the last 6 weeks. As a result, of course, there were
things in my life that I had to put on hold - Red Easel was one of
those things that just had to wait till the dust settled and life got
back to normal - or at the very least the laundry got caught up.
So, bare with me and pray with me while I continue to help my dear
friend get settled into her new life with her beautiful children beside
her. Your patience and understanding while this site and blog has had
to take a sabbatical from the world of fine art is appreciated. We
will be back soon with information and newsletters to make you smile
and inspire you to be the best artist you can be.

Gratefully,
Susan Vaughn, Editor
