Greetings!
As we begin the New Year, let's make some resolutions that we can keep. Like - paint more and study to improve our technique. Of course, there is always the necessary resolutions, like - hug your loved ones more ofen, send out more "thank you" cards, lose weight, get in shape, walk more, and so on. I try not to make resolutions I can't keep, but at the top of my list, next to hugging my children 10 more times a day is to spend more time in my studio - painting.
Did any of you paint the scenes of the season? Snow capped mountains, or a snow-covered tree and barn? Any sledding scenes? I am looking forward to publishing the paintings that you have created this winter. So, pull out your canvas and create the beautiful scenes of winter - then send me images of your paintings. I will publish them on Red Easel.
It is my prayer that everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday season with family and friends, and that you are facing the New Year with joy, goals, and a happy heart.
This painting is from Georgia O'Keefe - 1939 "Bella Donna" 36x30 Oil on Canvas. You can view more of Georgia O'Keefe's remarkable work at the O'Keefe Museum www.okeeffemuseum.org

"Christian Vincent "Certain Uncertainties"
Christian Vincent: "Certain Uncertainties" 1997
California
is the backdrop and the influence for this talented living artist.
Born in 1966 in Santa Monica, California and still living there,
Christian Vincent, 42, has amassed collectors and interest in his
realist paintings from every corner of the world.
You won't
find a picture of Christian Vincent on the internet - I know, I tried,
but you will find many of his paintings in galleries and museums and
auction records, although, you won't find any information about the
painting in question for this article. All I was able to find was the
name of the painting, the year it was supposedly painted, and of
course, the fact that Christian Vincent is the artist. Many people
have been enamored by the painting on the wall during the heated scene
on the stairway between Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo in The Thomas
Crown Affair - I know I was, and the painting just drew me in even
further. A great scene in one of my favorite movies, the love scene
will make you hate Renee Russo for looking so good for a woman in her
40s.
I would love to know how Christian Vincent's painting
managed to find its way onto the big screen, and maybe someday we will
know. I'm sure that living in California was a big plus.

The Art of Happiness
By Suzette Boulais
Professional Visual Artist Peoria, Illinois Suzette Boulais Fine Art Gallery Boulais Red Easel Gallery
As a subscriber to an online e-newsletter called The Painters Keys,
I was impressed by a recent column written by Robert Genn in which he
addressed the importance of seeking out those activities that are so
fulfilling that they leave no room for doubt. We simply must do them.
In fact, when we don't engage in those activities that fulfill the
passionate side of ourselves, we run the risk of leading lives of quiet
desperation about which famed poet Henry David Thoreau has written.
Genn's column begins with a quote by famous psychologist Abraham
Maslow: "A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must
write--if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can
be, one must be."
So the million-dollar question for each of us is: How do we find our own, individual "must?"
