Greetings!
I don't know about other artists, but I love Norman Rockwell. He took everyday life and turned it into a masterpiece of American history. Like the Monet's and Renoir's, and Picasso's too, you can spot his paintings in a second. I don't know of any other artist that was able to capture the essence of American life and the family experience like Norman Rockwell.
So, do you have your Christmas shopping done yet? I've almost finished my shopping. One trip to Target almost accomplished the entire Christmas list. Maybe I can get the rest done online. I hate the malls, and with crazy teenagers with rifles shooting people at random and parking garages collapsing, I just as soon stay home and shop online in my pajamas and fuzzy slippers.
I hope everyone is enjoying the season - and Red Easel too! This painting is from Norman Rockwell - "The Jolly Postman."

Johann Georg Meyer von Bremen "Tending the Little Ones"
Johann Georg Meyer von Bremen was born in Bremen (1813-1886) and was a German Academic Classical Artist.
Johann was a pupil of Dusseldorf Academy under Karl Ferdinand Sohn
and Friedrich Wilheim Schadow. He started painting biblical subjects,
then traveled in the Hessian, Bavarian, and Swiss mountain districts,
studying the people for his genre scenes, which have since become
widely known.
He repeatedly visited Belgium, and in 1852 moved to Berlin where he became a professor in 1863.
He was a member of the Amsterdam Academy and the Order of Leopold.
He received the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition Medal in 1876.
His magnificent works can be seen at the National Gallery, Berlin;
Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; and the
Cincinnati Museum, Ohio.
I love this artist's work. His ability to capture the essence of
his subject with such clarity and perfect harmony in his use of colors
and values is remarkable. His style is Romanticism, and there is no
question that he was a gifted artist and able to evoke emotion and
feelings for anyone in the presence of his paintings. I feel almost as
if the people within his paintings are going to walk off the canvas.
Magnificent artist. Do you think so too? Susan Comment on "What Work is This?" at Red Easel...

Red Easel Magazine
Thanks to all the wonderful comments I have been receiving for Red
Easel and our newsletter. Your thoughts and praises have been greatly
appreciated.
Many of you have said that you would like to see our newsletters
archived and available on the website. I thought that this was a great
idea, so after spending the entire weekend researching and playing
around on the computer to figure out how to do it, Red Easel Magazine was launched. Yeap, just what I need, another website
to keep me grounded on my sofa and out of my studio. But that's okay.
I love to write and play around on my Mac about as much as painting -
well, almost.
So check out all of the creative energy I put into Red Easel Magazine
this weekend. It is an extension of Red Easel, of course, by providing
the reader with an archive of all the newsletters you have been
receiving in your email.
I hope everyone will enjoy this new feature on Red Easel!
Your comments and emails are appreciated as we continue to provide you with a great place on the web for visual artists.
