By Artist Lorna Allen
Sharing with you some great news. I have been accepted into a South Island Gallery here in New Zealand. It’s a fairly new gallery which has only been operating a few months however has an eclectic collection of work and passionate and eager people there running it. Further to this I have been offered the opportunity, which has been accepted of course, to be the first ‘Artist in Residence’ there. I will take this up in early May 2011. I went down recently to meet everyone and quite a few of the townsfolk too, and to talk with them about things I would like to do while I am there like some work with the school and running workshops. Watch this space! I also took a couple of days up to Mt. Cook to see the summer time splendor of it all. A magical time.
When I arrive down there it will be autumn and then flow on into winter. I am told it can get very cold there and snows a lot. This deters me not at all. It will give opportunities for more variety and more options in what I paint. If any of you are passing through this town, stop and visit the gallery on Main Street. While there, indulge yourself at the Bakery across the road. The food is to die for!

For those of you in the Auckland region I will again be exhibiting at the Waitakere Open Studios, March 26th and 27th and at the Easter Show where I will be demonstrating as usual.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all the very best of health and happiness. I hope you have the opportunity to spend time with loved ones and that the New Year brings you every blessing.
Best regards to you all
