After graduating from New England School of Art and Design, Michael was hired by a major corporation in Lexington, MA, where he became supervisor of his dept. The job consisted of lots of detail and technical skills leaving Michael only his free time to express his creativity. So he began to paint again and within a short space of time he gained enough confidence to start showing his work to the public, where he had much success. It was during this period he discovered his inner voice which said, “Italy beckons, go see what awaits you." So he did.
Michael was overcome by the beauty and art he saw everywhere. He knew immediately this is where he was meant to be. Upon returning to the U.S., Michael began planning his one year sojourn to Florence, Italy. Within the year all was in place. He gave up his corporate job, sold his BMW, and off he went to start his life’s journey.
It was in Florence that Michael discovered abstraction and began a new series of paintings. However, elated by the success of these paintings, he found that creating one kind of art was not enough. By mixing it up with abstraction and representational at the same time, he discovered it was very satisfying as was using various mediums while expanding his artistic abilities. During his European sojourn Michael taught art, exhibited and received numerous commissions.
Michael returned to the U.S. after 15 years in Italy, Germany, and England. Finding it difficult to survive from just his art he began a decorative arts business which flourished for 14 years. Michael decided it was time to get back to what he loved the most, his painting and teaching. He is now painting and teaching in his Braintree studio, which is in it’s 6th year.
Michael continues to exhibit and accepts commissions for representational, abstract, and portrait painting.
